Ditch Witch Sales, Inc. has been an Authorized Dealer of Ditch Witch equipment for over 45 years. Our company sells, leases and services the world 's leading trenchers, vibratory plows, trenchless technology systems and underground tools and accessories available in today's market. Our complete line of underground construction equipment is used in the installation of electric and telephone cable, CATV, water and sewer distribution systems, natural gas lines, oil field gathering lines, as well as, other construction needs.
The Company's history dates back to September of 1958 when my grandfather, Jewell Medlin, purchased five trenchers for use in his sideline contracting business. Only four of the trenchers were needed by my grandfather, so he encouraged my father, Gerald Medlin, (who at that time was between his-junior and senior years at the University Missouri, Columbia) to sell the fifth trencher. During this time, only a few small service line trenchers existed. The majority of ditches were being ''dug by hand'' with picks and shovels and the "trencher'' was an innovative addition to the pioneer days of underground construction operations.
Dad sold that one trencher during the late summer of 1958, along with eight additional trenchers during the fall. Upon graduation from college and a brief stint with the Army, Dad worked six months for Witch Marketing Company (official marketer at the time for Charles Machine Works, Inc.) These days were spent training prospective dealers on the concept of selling Ditch Witch trenchers. In 1961, Dad founded Ozark Trencher Sales, Inc. (which is currently known as ''Ditch Witch Sales, Inc. '')
Not only was Dad the owner, he was also the salesman, parts manager and service manager all in one. The responsibility of numerous duties did not prove to be easy in this emerging market, but through many long hours of hard work and good judgment, the Company was on its way to a successful future.
In May of 1985, l graduated from the Business School at Washington University in St. Louis and began working at our Collinsville, Illinois store. In October of 1987, I bought the Collinsville store and on January 1 , 1989, purchased Ditch Witch Sales, Inc. from Dad. Through continued hard work and the growing demand for new and improved construction equipment in our region, we expanded our area in 1990 with the purchase of Ditch Witch of Kansas City and again in 1996 with the purchase of Ditch Witch of Springfield, Illinois. Our territory now includes the State of Missouri, Central and Southern Illinois, Eastern Kansas, and Northeast Arkansas.
Our business strategies and operations have changed throughout the years to help us achieve the high level of success that we enjoy today. We have grown from a small block building to over 50,000 square feet under roof at five locations in three states. We believe that we can best continue our success by providing the finest directional boring and trenching equipment available in today's market and rewarding our employees for their individual and team efforts.
With Ditch Witch dealerships located throughout the world, our determination for excellence has been rewarded numerous times with the distinction as the "#1 Dealership in Sales Volume in the world".
